The 21st law of John Maxwell’s The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader is the Law of Vision which says “you can seize only what you can see.” It means we get only what we’re looking for. Isn’t it strange then when you start shopping for a specific model car that all of a sudden you seem to see those cars everywhere?

Car shopping is not the only phenomenon that proves this law. Motorcycle riders will tell you when they are learning how to turn the bike they are taught to look at the destination where they want to turn. Anyone that rides a motorcycle can tell you that you don’t turn the handlebars to initiate a turn. You execute a turn by leaning in one direction or another. In a turn the mind will automatically adjust your balance so your turn is directed to what you are looking at. That’s one way to prove that you can seize only what you see.

Staying in the process is the only way to achieve good results.

This isn’t “mind over matter.” There are conditions we cannot change no matter how much happy thought we throw at them. I can keep thinking that my aging should reverse, but that’s not happening! Instead, I am convinced this law proves the notion that we get what we focus on. It also proves that “our attitude will determine our altitude.”

Maintain a positive attitude.

To be successful in the indirect hiring process you must maintain a positive attitude in all steps of the process, even if things aren’t going as you had planned. I’m not asking you to avoid problems, or to not think or react realistically. But a positive attitude is essential for you to maintain the momentum, diligence, and work required to be successful in the world of indirect employment.
