STEP 2: MAKE OR UPDATE A TARGETED RESUME.
A “targeted resume” is one that is targeted for the specific job you want to apply for.
For instance: I have one resume I use to attract consulting clients, and a different resume I use for construction projects.
If you have several types of work you can do, make different targeted resumes for each type.
Different resumes for each type of work make your job search more strategic, targeted, and successful.
Make sure you have a phone number and an email address on your resume. If you need help writing a resume, most states’ workforce development or departments of labor (or whatever your state calls it) offer free resume writing help or instruction. Many non-profit groups can also help you create a resume.
In today’s job searches, most job applications are made online, and the process is far quicker and easier when you have a resume that you could upload.
Most companies ask for a PDF or a word document for you to upload. Even if they don’t ask for a resume, you can use the resume to provide information every employer asks for.
