For most of us getting out of jail or prison is not only life changing, it’s the achievement of a huge goal.
You’ll be surprised how many people I’ve talked to that said their release from jail or prison was also a little disappointing.
Sure, they were happy to be free. But the achievement didn’t give them the satisfaction they expected.
The answer to successful reentry and a fulfilled life is not just having and accomplishing goals.
What happens once you achieve them? What’s next after you reach your goal?
I believe in goals. I think they’re very important. Making and reaching goals is a big part of what makes successful people successful, but not all of it!
Why Goals Aren’t Enough
You may have heard me say that the two hardest days of my life were the day I arrived in prison and the day I was released.
I spent so much time building up how happy I would be getting out, once free I wasn’t as happy as I expected. Believe it or not, part of me felt empty and unfulfilled.
I didn’t have the chance to enjoy being free because I immediately had to start the struggle to survive and rebuild my life, without a plan or anyone to show me the way.
Some people work hard, reach their goal, then stop moving forward. Maybe their victory was hollow, or wasn’t what they expected.
Their success didn’t bring them satisfaction.
I think that sometimes happens when people are released. We get so focused on getting out of jail or prison, that once we’re free we don’t know what to do next.
If your focus is just on goals, eventually you’ll achieve them all and not be satisfied.
If goals aren’t the answer to a successful life, then what is?
GROWTH.
Growth is more important than goals.
Don’t give up! People often give up too early, usually just before their lives change, because they think the results are taking too long or the progress isn’t as large as they wanted.
Growth doesn’t have to be big to have a huge impact. Growth multiplies & maximizes your life, if you make yourself keep growing.
Growth is more important than goals, which adds to your life, but not as powerfully as slow, steady, daily growth does.
In life we are either growing, or dying.
Five Facts About Growth
- In life, and in business, if you’re not growing you’re dying.
- If you’re a social media influencer, if your follower count isn’t growing you’re dying.
- Growth is what brings change as you make and achieve goals.
- Growth multiplies by following the right plan.
- The most successful people have a Personal Growth Plan, also known as a “PGP.
GROWTH should be (and can be) a constant process, whether you are free or not.
Don’t wait until you’re released to start growing. GROWTH helps make you ready for reentry success.
