Information is power, especially in a prison where quality information is hard to come by.
One of the most popular things to do inside American prisons is hardly ever mentioned. You’ll never see it glamorized on “Locked Up” or some other form of “reality TV.” The fact is, men and women inside prisons read. A lot.
Sure, some only read popular fiction or something to pass the time, which is great. But many read with a desire to grow, learn and change their lives. This thirst for knowledge inspired me to write Illegal to Legal, which has since been downloaded more than 126,000 times.
Ever since I released the book (and it’s companion workbook) I have received a steady stream of correspondence thanking me for the useful information.
Last month, I received this note from a prison staff member:
“The detainees in our facility have been introduced to your book through the Edovo tablet system. It has become a very popular course, so popular in fact that we recently purchased several copies of the book to add to our library. I would like to speak to you about the possibility of speaking to our detainees,” he wrote.
Which is, in the simplest terms, why I do what I do. I know the passion for change is strong inside American prisons and jails. It is also needed for people getting out or even for those who went through a devasting setback like bankruptcy or long-term unemployment without ever committing crimes. The need for information on how to get one’s life back on track is greater than ever.
Our work is growing to meet that demand.
We launched a new website to better provide information and expand our reach to new communities, which you can click here to learn more about.
We have consolidated our business coaching services into affordable, actionable programs for people wanting to improve their lives. We even have a “Hire Yourself Today” package of services from website construction, design and business consulting that can get you a foundation for a new business for a fraction of the cost.
In addition to our book and workbook, we are now offering courses online within the prison system. I’m bringing back my popular “Ask Bob” column and publishing it both inside prisons and out here on my site to provide practical information that can help people find better jobs or start their own business.
Finally, I have a new book coming soon packed with useful information to kick-start your life plan. I can’t wait to start to share it with you.
Information is power. Nobody knows that better than those cut off from so much of it, like those inside our prisons and jails. If we want to have the power to change our lives and to help others do the same, we must provide that information that propels us all to action.
This is my mission. I invite you to join me on it moving forward. Simply subscribe to my mailing list for offers, free information, and other updates that will help you or people you love to gain vital information on their path to success.
If you know anyone who can benefit from this information, please share it widely! The more we provide resources to people rebuilding their lives, the better life will be for all of us.
